Thank you for requesting the Stata files that contain the Poverty Measure as developed by the Social Metrics Commission (SMC), an independent commission hosted by The Centre for Social Policy Studies.

These Stata files are free to use, but in using them you agree to cite the ‘Social Metrics Commission’ as the exclusive and original source of the Poverty Measure when publishing anything that makes use of these Stata files or the underlying methodologies of the Poverty Measure (whether online, in print or via any other medium).

Terms & Conditions in respect of the Poverty Measure created by the Social Metrics Commission

  1. The Poverty Measure is the exclusive intellectual property of The Centre for Social Policy Studies. The Centre for Social Policy Studies is also the copyright owner of all code contained within the Stata files. The Social Metrics Commission is an independent commission hosted by the Centre for Social Policy Studies.
  2. The Poverty Measure comprises and is defined by three key interdependent components:
  • A measure of poverty based on total resources available;
  • Persistence and depth of poverty; and
  • Lived experience of poverty.
  1. You must cite the ‘Social Metrics Commission’ as the exclusive and original source of the Poverty Measure when publishing anything that makes use of any part of these Stata files or the underlying methodologies of the Poverty Measure (whether online, in print or via any other medium).
  2. If you amend the Poverty Measure within the Stata files in any way from its original composition in producing your outputs, you agree to expressly cite in the relevant publication:
  • That the ‘Social Metrics Commission’ is the exclusive and original source of the Poverty Measure and its code, howsoever named; and
  • Specify how you have amended the Poverty Measure and state expressly and clearly that your applicable output does not constitute, represent or reflect the poverty measure as originally created by the ‘Social Metrics Commission’.
    1. You agree that you shall not use the Stata files and/ or the Poverty Measure for any financial gain or benefit in kind.
    2. Before sharing the Poverty Measure with any third party, you shall procure that such third party is made aware of these terms and conditions.

    4. We exclude all implied conditions, warranties, representations or other terms that may apply to our site or any content on it. We will not be liable to you for any loss or damage, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, or otherwise, even if foreseeable, arising under or in connection with (i) use of, or inability to use, our site, or (ii) use of or reliance on any content displayed on our site.
